Champaign, OH:  Daydream

And even if time has passing me by a lot
I couldn’t care less about the dues you say I got
Tomorrow I’ll pay the dues for droppin’ my load
A pie in your face for bein’ a sleepy bulltoad…
(Lovin’ Spoonful-Daydream)

Soooooo….I had a super post, all ready to go, to welcome in the spring weather, to shed sunshine all over your day, and to talk about growth, green, golden tones…but, as usual, Mother Nature has the last laugh.

Happy first day of spring…happy day of incoming snow, ice, wind…yes, the winter that wouldn’t leave. The spring teases, the winter crushes.

Anyway…we just keep all warm and cozy in our little online world. The market is rolling, the orders are spinning, and it’s the perfect way to stay out of the cold, out of the big stores, and staying in with local food, nutrition, and value. All with the ease of ordering, picking it up with ease, and getting smiles and chatting from your lovely market managers, and your Y staff…can you get that anywhere else?

Ok…go dream your own daydream about spring…but first…groove us your order…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Market News

If you got a Spring Break last week, I hope you had a good one! Me, I’ve got a regular 9-5, and stayed in town and enjoyed the quiet. That was nice. Spring officially starts this week, and hopefully the deep freezes are behind us. We’ve got another month until our average last frost day (two months for some of our outlying growers), so we’ll no doubt see some cold nights — possibly even some light frost in town later this week. Frosts are one thing, but deep freezes are much harder on our growers and the plants they’re cultivating. I was out hiking in the botanical gardens today and saw some blueberry bushes in bloom, and was reminded of our late March deep freeze last year that did serious damage.

Thank you so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you on Thursday at Ben’s Bikes at the corner of Pope and Broad Streets from 4:30 to 8pm!

Other Area Farmers Markets

Most other area markets are closed down for the season or have moved to winter hours. The Athens Farmers Market has closed for the season. They’ll return on March 24, and you can catch the news on their website. The West Broad Farmers Market is closed for the season, and you can watch for their return on April 28 on their website here: http://www.athenslandtrust.org/west-broad-farmers-market/. The Comer Farmers’ Market is open on Saturday mornings from 9am to noon. Check www.facebook.com/comerfm for more information. Washington, GA also has a lovely little Saturday market, running Saturdays from 9 to noon. You can learn all about them here: www.washingtonfarmersmkt.com. Folks to the east can check out the Hartwell Farmers Market, which starts bright and early on Saturday morning from 7am to noon, and Tuesday afternoons from noon to 4pm. If you know of any other area markets operating, please let me know.

All of these other markets are separate from ALG (including the Athens Farmers Market) but many growers sell at multiple markets. Please support your local farmers and food producers, where ever you’re able to do so!

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!
